Commonly Asked Questions by Divers

Do divers have to come with their own Team of six?

No! As a matter of fact when we came up with the idea of 2006 Dive Challenge we new it would be challenging (no pun) for Divers to find their own Team of 6.  We are encouraging individuals to sign up.

How many days can Divers expect to set aside for the 2006 Dive Challenge?

Divers participating in the 2006 Dive Challenge should expect to set aside a maximum of 6 days – (1weekend for their Team Success training program, 4 days for the 2006 Dive Challenge event if they are on the winning team).

How much is the Team Success Training program?

The Team Success training program has been reduced to $300.00 per Diver.

Is there an entry fee to the 2006 Dive Challenge?

This year the entry fee is waived due to each Diver having to go through the Team Success training program.  For all future 2006 Dive Challenge Events, there will probably be a nominal entry fee for each Diver.

Are there any special equipment requirements required for the 2006 Dive Challenge?

Yes, each Diver must be outfitted with all the basic dive equipment specified by their respective training agency – buoyancy compensator, regulator, pressure gauge dive computer and/or digital bottom timer, audible signaling device, cutting device, lift bag, wreck reel/line reel and appropriate exposure protection for the environment.  Additionally, they will be required to have their own equipment appropriate to the required specialties.

Is there any special paperwork required for the 2006 Dive Challenge

Yes!  Divers, who would like to enter the Event, can visit our web site and print out a diver registration form.  Every entry MUST provide 2006 Dive Challenge with a Medical Form signed by their Medical Doctor/Physician prior to participating in any sanctioned 2006 Dive Challenge Event.

Is building the three dimensional structure in the Team Success training program considered the 2006 Dive Challenge?

No it’s not.  The three dimensional structure is just the medium by which we assess the teams application of the Team Success program concepts.  But divers shouldn’t be fooled, for their team to be able to find all the pieces of the structure and build it, is a challenge in and of it self.  The 2006 Dive Challenge is actually a separate event consisting of four – 1 to 2 dive micro challenges where the only Teams that will advance to the next challenge, are the Teams with the highest scores.  The 2006 Dive Challenge will start on a designated weekend with 10 teams.  By the end of that weekend, the field gets narrowed down to 5 teams.  These winning 5 teams will then be narrowed to 3 teams.  On the last weekend, the 3 remaining teams will be reduced to 2 Teams and finally the WINNING Team.

Can our Dive Center make up our own Team?

Yes!  You just have to keep in mind that the 2006 Dive Challenge has been opened up to include Dive Professionals and Dive Rescue Teams.  However, regardless of their diving background, they must still meet the 2006 Dive Challenge prerequisites.

Does 2006 Dive Challenge assign Team names?

No!  We are encouraging team originality and team specific naming.  Note, the only thing we ask is, keep it tasteful.  However, teams are prohibited to use any Dive Center, Dive Club or Dive Organization as their “Team” name.  Once a Team comes up with a name, they must submit it to 2006 Dive Challenge for approval.

Can our Dive Center provide a Divemaster and/or an Instructor to act as a coach for a Team?

No!  That’s the purpose of having the divers go through the Team Success training program.  However, divemasters and/or instructors can be the divers that make up the team going through Team Success and participating in the 2006 Dive Challenge.  Important to remember - the success of the team is based on learning how to work together as a Team to asses their mission/objectives of each dive, come up with an appropriate plan of action and delegate responsibilities.  Having one or two dominate team members may be a detriment to the team as a whole.
